The results are in: TotallyMoney is one of the best companies to work for — again!
By Alastair Douglas
May 20th 2021I’m so proud to announce that TotallyMoney has once again been chosen as one of the best companies to work for, with Best Companies awarding us a three star accreditation — the highest standard of workplace engagement.
In fact, we’re officially the 5th best company in finance, 12th best mid-sized company in London and the 34th best mid-sized company in the UK.
It’s a real testament to all the hard work the team’s put in over the last year. At a time when it would be all too easy to drift apart, we continued to find new and inventive ways to stay engaged and connected.
We’ve embraced “the new normal”
At TotallyMoney, we’re all about helping people move on up. That applies just as much to our team as it does to our customers. How can we expect to build a product that really helps people, without first building a working environment that gives our employees the skills and support they need?
Finding the right ways of working helps make sure everyone’s bought into the purpose of the business. That’s why being the best place to work is such a big part of our mission.
But the past twelve months have blurred the boundary between work and home like never before – the workplace is now the study, or the kitchen table, or the bedroom. It’s never been so important to look after company culture and employee wellbeing.
We recognised early that we were in this for the long haul. We haven’t let restrictions stop us investing in mental and physical wellbeing, socialising, or giving back to the community. Instead, we’ve put substantial measures in place to ensure we continue to be a unique, engaging place to work.
We've prioritised employee wellbeing
To start, we’ve doubled-down on our commitment to wellbeing. In terms of virtual solutions we’ve provided Self Space therapy sessions, monthly mindfulness classes and yoga. But beyond that, we’ve also introduced an “amber” status on Slack, to let people know when you need a little space, and we’ve introduced more flexible hours, so everyone can better juggle work with their other responsibilities.
Plus, we’ve embraced technology to continue raising money for causes close to our hearts. We challenged ourselves to get active by tracking our activity on CountIt and awarding points for steps, with the company donating 1p for every point earned. I’m proud to say we raised £1,317 for Hackney Foodbank in October and £1,389 for the Maya Centre in March.
We've been creative with culture
We’ve also been inventive with our company socials. It’s not unusual to find us in a chocolate tasting class, a virtual escape room, or a kokedama workshop. We know Zoom can get pretty exhausting, so we’ve made the effort to break the mould and make socials worth getting excited about.
And we haven’t let up when it comes to training, either. New starters get a full virtual induction, we have “essential” training for people in the first three years of their careers, new manager training, plus we encourage all employees to make use of a learning budget to expand their knowledge and skill sets.
All in all, it’s been a tough year, but I’m so pleased with how the team has pulled together. Making this shortlist proves that TotallyMoney continues to be a place people love to work. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, I’m confident we’ll be an even stronger team when we get to see each other again – hopefully very soon.
