It’s easy to think that the top music acts come from the UK’s largest cities — such as London, Liverpool, and Manchester.
However, a quick glance at our interactive map shows that super talent emerges from all over the UK.
Not only does it show where the artist comes from, it also reveals how much they’re worth and how many numbers ones they’ve had.
One Direction frontman Harry Styles (worth £56 million) was raised in the small village of Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, before rising to fame on The X Factor. The village has a population of just 5,795 according to the 2016 Census.
Similarly, stadium rock band Muse (worth £9.3 million) originate from Teignmouth, Devon, which has a population of 15,454.
Playing around with the map uncovers further insights. For example, the number of chart-topping hits an artist has had doesn’t necessarily correlate with their net worth.
South London powerhouse Adele, despite numerous musical accolades to her name, has had only two UK number ones, but a net worth of £125 million.
By contrast, electro enthusiast Calvin Harris has some impressive seven UK number ones, with a measly (ha!) net worth of £51 million.
You might find yourself thinking how some of the featured artists earned so much, given their musical talent. We don’t want to name names, so why not check out our UK music map and see for yourself?
