We’re on a mission to improve the credit scores of 5 million people in the UK, and are working towards a world where everyone can make financial decisions with total confidence. Helping people is key to our mission, and to the way we treat our team. It’s baked into our shared values and culture.
That’s why we couldn’t be prouder taking 52nd place on the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies list — especially since this was our first time entering.
So, how did we do it?
All TotallyMoney employees get the help and support they need to progress their careers, as well as:
- An annual training budget
- Full Circle training for managers
- Flexible working
- Duvet days
- Enhance maternity and paternity leave — and much more.
Equality in the way we hire and treat staff also plays a huge role in creating the best work culture. It’s why we signed the Women In Finance Charter, have committed to attract more women to FinTech, and participate in communities such as Ada’s List and Code First Girlsto achieve this aim.
But, what we’ve found is that creating a social environment both in and out of work fosters the the most positive company culture. Aside from taking advantage of communication tools like Slack — where the whole company can communicate and share — we have an open culture where everyone can feedback to make our company better.
This includes things such as chairing an employee advisory board every month to hear what our team really thinks, and using Peakon to track our engagement score every month. It’s through open and shared collaboration that everyone feels part of TotallyMoney and our mission.
The open and social culture we’ve created extends beyond our Old Street office hours, in the monthly team events our social committee organise:
- Badminton and football at lunchtime
- Book club
- A group of Catan enthusiasts
- Table tennis on Friday afternoons, in true FinTech style
- Quarterly team socials
- Regular company socials
Helping each other extends beyond our customers and our team, and our corporate social responsibility efforts are something are employees are very happy about. It’s important for us to help others who need a hand up — not a hand out — which is why we’ve partnered with Benefacto to give every TotallyMoney employees two paid working days a year to volunteer.
We also donate our Thursday breakfast to Magic Breakfast, a charity that provides healthy school breakfasts to hungry and malnourished children in disadvantaged areas of the UK. We will also match any charitable sponsorship raised by a staff member up to a maximum of £500 per person.
As our company grows, we hope to invest even more into our team and culture to move up the rankings next year.
