Simply the Best: TotallyMoney scoops the Best Company to Work For award
By Felicity WinkleyNov 11th 2020
After eight months of Zoom-fatigue and the nights now drawing in, last weeks’ virtual Credit Awards nevertheless felt surprisingly celebratory, with the presenters taking to the stage in black tie and the awards being announced live (with the potential for an Oscars 2017 moment).
It was fantastic, then, to learn TotallyMoney had once again been awarded Best Company to Work For, after what have been a challenging few months for us and many of our colleagues. While the award recognises our achievements in 2019, it felt timely given all our efforts this year to support employee mental health and wellbeing, and maintain our excellent staff engagement. It served as a reminder about the value of all the provisions we have in place, and the need to maintain these and build upon them.
For example, the fortnightly yoga launched last year has been invaluable to staff during lockdown — providing a really easy way of exercising at the end of the day with colleagues in a safe and restorative environment. The wellbeing workshops we started in 2019 with Haptivate have also been helpful: building upon the resilience and positivity training we had previously, this year we have focused on subjects like attention and focus, building healthy routines and the science of sleep, all of which we chose to help employees explore some of the issues arising from working remotely and trying to find work-life balance while working from home.
Focusing on Learning and Development
We recently celebrated the first year anniversary of our Learning & Development Coordinator, who has played a vital role in supporting the development needs of our team, and whose appointment along with an L&D Strategy were one of the highlights of our award entry. After a company-wide survey at the end of last year, we implemented Udemy, which has been another great tool during coronavirus, giving staff access to over 4,000 online courses. We continue to improve our provision around performance review, progression frameworks and personal development plans.
Zooming in on the future
Finally, the last few months have demonstrated more than ever the importance of providing a comprehensive range of policies and benefits to look after employee health and wellbeing, in particular mental health. We had already been making concerted effort in this area by launching Spill (a message-based therapy app), and removing some of the barriers traditionally associated with accessing therapy including cost and time, but this year we have added monthly mindfulness meditation, an employee assistance programme, and have very recently upgraded our therapy offering to providing face to face counselling sessions through Self Space.
At TotallyMoney, we have always known that the engagement of our team is fundamental to our success: that doing our best by our employees ensures we are able to do the best for our customers. But at the moment it’s even more than that — we want to support our colleagues with keeping happy and healthy, maintaining (as much as possible) a good work-life balance, and ultimately be the Best Company to Work For. Thank you to Credit Strategy for the recognition.
