An ‘outstanding’ year for staff engagement

Last week, TotallyMoney learnt we’d earned a 3-star accreditation from Best Companies, recognising us for ‘extraordinary’ levels of engagement. We were delighted, and we look forward to seeing whether we’ll join the ranks of a number of other fantastic companies on the Sunday Times Top 100 lists when they’re published early next year.

Among our Top 15 Most Correlated Questions on the Best Companies survey, seven of the top eight were about management support, including ‘My manager cares about me as an individual’ and ‘My manager helps me to fulfil my potential’. It’s great to know that we have such a strong set of managers helping us grow.

At fifth place was ‘the leader has a plan that I believe in’, which was also good to read. Thanks to our monthly staff surveys with Peakon, we were already aware that our staff are highly engaged with our values and mission, as our Organisational Fit score — which relates to the degree with which employees feel like the culture and values of the organisation match their own — places us in the top 10% of the sector. However, it’s always good to get additional insight, and to be able to draw data from different sources.

In the meantime, this accolade closes off what has been a great year for recognising TotallyMoney staff culture. In May we took Best Company to Work For at the Credit Awards, and in September we received accreditation from Great Places to Work for demonstrating Excellence in Wellbeing.

Clearly, it’s wonderful to be recognised for staff engagement — something that is at the heart of daily life here for us. But, I’m particularly pleased about this given the fact we started the year with 50 staff and we will be ending it with 67, after a very busy few months of recruitment!

Now, as we grow, it’s even more important to us to maintain our fantastic culture and ensure little things don’t start to slip through the cracks. We’re putting more energy than ever into staff wellbeing, with a particular emphasis on mental health and resilience, and we’ve launched a new sabbatical policy and duvet days to help maintain a great work-life balance.

As 2019 fast approaches, I’m hoping all the new starters who joined us this year will begin to feel like part of the family, and we’ll be able to keep up the engagement for all those who join us down the line.
