Ever wondered what time of the year is the best time to start looking for your new job? The answer is: RIGHT NOW.
It’s a pretty standard sort of thing to have written on your list of New Years’ Resolutions, to hunt out that job you know will make you happier than the dead-end gig you have going on right now. But starting a job hunt in January is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Why? Because everyone else is out looking in January too, so the market is flooded with skilled people all hunting for your perfect job.
New research by JSFirm shows that the best time to start hunting out your new job is actually right now, as companies who are anticipating new hires in January are starting the search process as we speak. JSFirm reports that job ad sales are as much as 38% higher in the last quarter of each year, so that employers have time to find the right person for the job. So there is more choice in the available jobs now than there will be in a few months’ time.
You’re also likely to find a better paying salary at this time of the year than in January, because many companies who underestimate the time it takes to find and recruit qualified job seekers find themselves paying more for their job seeker agency contracts in January as they scramble to find people – and higher agency fees means less negotiating room for the new potential employee on salary.
There are loads of talented people out of work at the moment thanks to a squeezed economy, so you really should do all that you can to give yourself the best possible chance of finding your dream job. So quit dreaming about it and start looking because there could be a job vacancy out there with your name on it right now!
