Mike Perham sets sail
November 17th, 2008
Mike Perham departed Portsmouth on Saturday morning in TotallyMoney.com as he set sail after months of preparation in his bid to become the youngest person to sail solo around the world.
Hundreds of well-wishers turned out to bid Mike Farewell and show support on what was a very exciting day for the 16 year old. In an earlier interview he could hardly contain his excitement, saying that he could barely believe the day had finally arrived after so much planning and months of preparation.
It was no doubt a mixed bag of emotions for Mike and his family as they said their goodbyes for what is expected to be a four and a half month journey.
Mike’s departure was covered by local and national press, with interviews appearing on major news channels throughout the day.
Mike will spend the night in Falmouth, Cornwall with his father Peter before crossing the starting point off Lizard Point – the easternmost point of Britain, and the official setting off point for round-the-world sailing endeavours.
Here at TotallyMoney.com we wish Mike all the best for his journey, and will be following his progress with great interest. All coverage of Mike’s journey, as well as a live tracker of his position can be found at http://www.totallymoney.com/sailmike/
