My definition of fun – drinking (copious amounts of rosé), eating (food not prepared by myself – I don’t enjoy cooking much), spending money (unnecessarily).
… As a newbie to blogging, I think I should be honest and so I’ll start now. My blog title isn’t completely accurate – I go on holiday on the 19th and so really my detox will only last for a few weeks. However, whilst I’m away I do intend to carry on writing about my progress with one of my new year’s resolutions (not spending money unnecessarily).
Firstly, I’d like to share with you how I won my holiday (my entry is on page 63). I’d also like to point out, I’m not a ‘comper’ – it was actually my first online competition entry!
Anyhow with a holiday to the Caribbean in the not too distant future, cutting out the drinking and eating rubbish part is necessary. Perhaps more so than usual. I’m staying at a Sandals resort where many will be on their honeymoons and so the brides will have already spent months dieting to fit in to their wedding dresses.
So it’s day 4 and how well have I done?
Aside from the bottle of rosé in the early hours of New Year’s Day (come on –resolutions don’t really begin when the fireworks start over the Thames), I’m doing well on the drink front.
I replied to a birthday invite today, informing my friends I’d be sipping on non-alcoholic cocktails this weekend. I’m normally a sex-on-the-beach type of cocktail girl (no, I’m not from Essex), but I intend to opt for something without vodka, which must equate to a saving of at least £3 per drink. I received sceptical replies from (all 8!) of them. I’ll let you know next week whether or not I prove them wrong.
As for the spending money part, I will just write about my holiday preparation savings. I think it’d be too much of a confession if I told you about my recent trip to Ikea (it was a good sale and I did have a bare flat). I went through my summer wardrobe during the Christmas period and easily filled a rather large suitcase. The early signs are that I won’t need to buy much for my free holiday and so I reckon this January commitment may just be a doddle after all…
What are you quitting this January?

Love your definition of fun. I always think that in London you have to spend money to have fun. Let me know what fun free things you come up with!
You’re really inspiring…
I’m going to try and drink less this month also. Although it’s a little hard because my friend’s birthday is next week and my other friend is having me plan a bunch of wedding things with her in 2 weeks (so I bet there will be heavy drinking), but hopefully it’ll be cheap!
Good luck at your friend’s party. It would be interesting to know how much money you spend that night compared to everyone else!
good luck with all of your resolutions, giving up the spending sounds like the most difficult!
PSEE / Jayaich – love your thinking! At this rate I may have to redefine fun by week 2…
Good luck, I definitely would have given up to temptation by now
Don’t bother about resolutions just get out there and have fun. Holiday sounds great try the Rum punch that way you include the 5 a day
HBomb is right… your friends sound just awful. Don’t let them hold you back. Your honest determination is refreshing.
