I recently read that the average Briton is willing to pay an extra £3,100 for a home with good neighbours*. Right now I’d be prepared to pay double that, because I’m at the end of my tether with our neighbours!

They are SO LOUD. ALL THE TIME. Our flat is in a converted Victorian house, which was converted before there were any soundproofing regulations, so you people don’t even have to be being particularly loud in the first place to be able to hear everything being said and done in the other flats. We never had any trouble with the old tenants, but about a year ago the neighbours in the flats above and below changed, and the new people are unbearable.

They all seem to have nothing better to do than sleep all day, and then bang around all night playing loud music. I wouldn’t care if they were loud during the day, but I am a little bit tired of being woken up by the noise every night. We have to sleep with ear plugs in, it’s that bad.

So after a few friendly requests to keep the noise down have been ignored, we have given our notice and are now looking for somewhere new to live. I’m totally bummed to leave our flat, as I love it, and we’ve been there so long. It’s also really frustrating to have to go through the hassle and expense of moving because other people are being inconsiderate. But it’s not worth it to get into a nasty battle with them over it, so we are going elsewhere. Thank god we rent! I can’t even imagine going through something like this in a home that you own!

Have you ever had to move house because of something like this?
