Savings 1-0 health – the fight continues: Week 4
by Simon on Jan 23,2012
Following last week’s’ fruit’ obsession, I’ve managed to ween myself onto vegetables, in particular courgettes- I bet you’re impressed now?
Well, in truth, don’t be as said vegetables are indeed genuine courgettes but thinly sliced and deep fried at my favourite lunchtime restaurant – I thought I’d substitute my usual order of skin on chips for a nice bowl of the tasty green morsels, but when they were served they had more fat oozing from them than a pack of lard smothered over a stuffed pig on a BBQ. All they needed was the rock salt to soak in and I found heaven on a plate!
S-c-r-u-m-p-t-i-o-u-s - in fact I’m dribbling over my keyboard as I type this – probably with slightly fatter fingers after visiting the restaurant twice last week to get my fix.
Why-o-why is everything that’s tasty and delicious so bad for you or is it that my brain just isn’t wired properly – maybe hypnotherapy can convince me that foods with vitamins are my dream intake and all things with sugar and spice are abhorent??!!
Hmmm, scratch that last idea as my brain already works in a strange and mysterious ways, so messing further with it could have catastrophic consequences. No. Quite simply I need to be tougher on myself and turn my hit and miss resolve into something more akin steel and commit to soup and salad for next week’s lunchtime feasting, oops, I mean fasting…!
On a positive, I did start some gentle exercise managing to have a 20 minute brisk walk most days to get the blood flowing and I’m going to try and keep this up – although I’m still using the lift rather than the stairs to get to the office which isn’t good but I just don’t like the thought of our new automated lift concierge being lonely. She, (I think of her as Selina), already sounds thouroughly depressed and, I feel, needs the company as she announces each floor and door movement with humility – how, in clear conscience can I abandon her? Too soon I think – one for the future…
Although the diet and exercise has been a bit lack lustre, the savings have been pretty good this week – with nearly £50 rescued, quite literally, from my jaws!
So the week 4 score looks like: Savings – 1 Health – 0. Better luck next week!
